Daly City grew in tracts. Henry Doelger broke ground on Westlake in 1949 and building continued into the early 1960s, so an entire street can share one build year, one pipe spec, and one failure window. When a neighbor repipes, you are usually next. The common findings are galvanized supply lines closing up from the inside, original cast iron drain stacks rusting at the base, and water heaters in tight interior closets that were never sized for a second bathroom. Hillside streets add another variable, since the city system runs across more than twenty pressure zones.
Uniform tracts fail in patterns. If your main line has already been patched once, the next failure is rarely far away, and the second repair usually costs more than replacement would have. We locate the line, watch the meter for movement with every fixture closed, and quote a full run. See our water line repair page for how that work goes.
They showed up in under an hour, quoted me before touching anything, and cleaned up after. Exactly how it should be.

Learn MoreA look at real Works jobs around the Peninsula.
Daly City is one of the few cities on this side of the Peninsula that still pumps its own water.
The city’s Department of Water and Wastewater takes regional water through eleven turnouts off the San Francisco regional system and also operates municipal wells with names residents will recognize: Westlake, Vale, and Jefferson. According to the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency, roughly sixty percent of demand is met with regional surface water and the rest with local groundwater, and the two are deliberately blended. The blend keeps nitrate below the limit, and the mineral content of the well water also serves as a corrosion buffer for the distribution system.
For a homeowner, the practical effect is that Daly City water is not the same as the unblended regional surface water delivered in neighboring coastal cities. Blended supply carries more hardness, and hardness shows up as scale on water heater elements, on tankless heat exchangers, and inside faucet aerators.
Pair that with the housing. The Westlake tracts went up between 1949 and the early 1960s, so thousands of homes hit sixty and seventy years of service life at once, with original galvanized supply and cast iron drainage.
We test hardness before recommending any treatment, and we flush and inspect water heaters here on a shorter interval than we would inland.
Here are the questions we hear most. Don’t see yours? Give us a ring, a real human answers, day or night.
Two places. The city runs its own Department of Water and Wastewater, taking regional surface water through turnouts off the San Francisco system and pumping local groundwater from municipal wells including Westlake and Vale. The two supplies are blended before delivery, which is why the water here is not identical to a neighboring city’s.
It does. The Westlake tracts went up between 1949 and the early 1960s with the same materials on every lot, so neighboring houses reach the end of their original pipe life at roughly the same time. If two homes on your block have repiped recently, get yours inspected.
Yes for the work, and a separate approval if the trench crosses the sidewalk or street. Permits go through the City of Daly City, and the water side is administered by the Department of Water and Wastewater. We confirm the requirements, pull the permits under our license, and meet the inspector.
Blended supply carries more dissolved mineral than unblended surface water, and that mineral drops out as scale on the tank bottom and on tankless heat exchangers. Scale insulates the burner from the water and drives the unit harder. Annual flushing buys back years, and we test hardness before recommending treatment.
Often in part. Homes of that era were commonly built with galvanized supply and cast iron drainage, and many have had copper spliced in during past repairs. Joints between dissimilar metals corrode faster than either metal alone. We open one section and look before recommending a full repipe.
All of them, including Westlake, Serramonte, the Bayshore area, and the hillside streets above Mission Street. Our shop is in Pacifica, so we are a short run over the hill. Dispatch is staffed around the clock and the trucks carry common water heater and drain parts.
We also serve Colma, Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Pacifica.
