Storm Drain Cleaning

Storm Drain Cleaning in Pacifica and the Peninsula

A yard that ponds, a garage that takes water at the door, a driveway drain that overflows instead of draining. Storm systems silt up quietly and then fail in the first real rain. We clear and camera storm drains across Pacifica, San Francisco, and Burlingame, ideally before the season starts.

Storm Drain Cleaning in Pacifica, San Francisco and Burlingame

Storm drains fail differently from sewer lines. They are not under constant use, so nothing tells you they are clogged until it rains hard, and by then you are managing water rather than fixing pipe. What accumulates is silt, leaf litter, grit washed off paving, and root growth at joints, all settling in the low points until the effective diameter is a fraction of what was installed.

On this coast the consequences are more than inconvenience. Water that cannot get to the drain finds the next lowest route, which is often against a foundation, into a garage, or under a driveway slab where it undermines the base. Ponding against a footing is the expensive version of a blocked yard drain.

We jet the silt out, camera the run to check for crushed sections or root intrusion, and confirm the system carries water at volume rather than just at a trickle. Book a free estimate any time, no obligation.

What’s included

  • Yard, driveway and area drain clearing
  • Catch basin and channel drain cleaning
  • Downspout and underground leader clearing
  • French drain and perimeter system flushing
  • Camera inspection of storm runs
  • Pre-season maintenance clearing

How the job goes

  • We locate every inlet and trace where the system discharges, then check which sections are silted or blocked and quote one flat price.
  • You approve the price, and our licensed tech does the work from a fully stocked truck, so most jobs finish in a single visit without a parts run.
  • We jet the run clear, camera it to check for crushed pipe or root intrusion, and flow test at volume so you know it will cope with real rain.

Thank you again for another job well done, and thank you for responding right away. I will continue to recommend Works Plumbing because they respond right away and get the job done efficiently.

Why homeowners choose Works

Every storm drain job comes with upfront pricing, licensed and background-checked technicians, and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and insurance, and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

We are a plumbing-only shop, which means the tech at your door has spent years on this exact work rather than splitting time across three trades. Our crews are drug tested as well as background checked, and dispatch is staffed by real people around the clock. No surprises, no commission-driven upsells, no pressure, ever.

Pro tip

Clear your storm drains in early autumn rather than after the first storm. Grates and catch basins fill with leaf litter exactly when the rain arrives, and a system that was fine in July can be effectively blocked by November. Lifting the grates and pulling the debris out by hand takes twenty minutes and prevents most of the calls we get in December.

Is a storm drain the same as a sewer drain?

No, and they should never be connected. A sanitary sewer carries waste from inside the house to the sewer main and on to treatment. A storm system carries rainwater from roofs, yards, and paving to a storm outfall or a soakaway. They are separate systems with separate rules, and cross-connecting them is a code violation that can put sewage into surface water. If we find them joined, we will tell you.

When should I have storm drains cleaned?

Early autumn is the right window, before the first significant rain and after most leaf fall. If your property has mature trees, or you have had ponding in previous winters, an annual clear is a reasonable maintenance item. Properties that have never had them cleared and are more than a couple of decades old are usually the ones where we find the pipe half full of compacted silt.

Why does my yard drain overflow instead of draining?

Usually because the pipe downstream of it is silted, crushed, or root blocked, so the inlet has nowhere to send water. Sometimes the discharge point itself has been buried or paved over during past landscaping, which we find more often than you would think. Occasionally the fall on the line is simply too shallow. The camera tells us which, and that determines whether it is a clean or a repair.

Can water in the yard really damage the house?

Yes, and it is the reason we treat this as more than a nuisance. Water ponding against a foundation saturates the soil supporting it, and saturated soil moves and loses bearing capacity. Under a driveway or patio slab it washes out the base and the slab cracks. Getting surface water into a drain and away from the building is genuinely structural protection, not just convenience.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We come out, diagnose the actual fault, and give you one flat price covering parts and labor before any work starts. If you decide not to book, you owe nothing and we will not chase you with follow-up calls. We would rather you had an honest number to compare than feel cornered into a decision at the door.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and liability insurance, and is accredited with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Every technician who comes to your door is background checked and drug tested, and arrives in a marked Works van in uniform. If you want to verify the license before booking, you can look it up on the California Contractors State License Board website.
