Whole-Home Water Filtration in Pacifica, San Francisco and Burlingame
Whole-house filtration sits on the main line at the point of entry and treats everything downstream. Depending on what the water test shows, that usually means a sediment stage to take out grit and particulate, a carbon stage for chlorine, chloramine, taste and odour, and where hardness or iron is the issue, a softener or iron filter alongside it. The stages are chosen from the test rather than sold as a package.
What you get from it is different from what a drinking water filter gives you. Chlorine removed before it reaches the shower rather than after, appliances and water heaters fed water that is not scaling or corroding them, and no sediment reaching fixture cartridges, which is one of the quiet causes of faucet failure in this area.
What it does not do is match reverse osmosis for dissolved contaminants at the drinking tap, and we will not pretend otherwise. Plenty of homes end up with a whole-house system plus RO at the kitchen sink, because the two solve different problems. Book a free estimate any time, no obligation.

How the job goes
We test the water, identify what actually needs treating, and size the stages to your flow rate and household demand before quoting.
You approve the price, and our licensed tech does the work from a fully stocked truck, so most jobs finish in a single visit without a parts run.
We install at the point of entry with bypass and service valves, flush and commission the media, and test water quality at multiple taps.
Thank you again for another job well done, and thank you for responding right away. I will continue to recommend Works Plumbing because they respond right away and get the job done efficiently.

Why homeowners choose Works
Every filtration installation comes with upfront pricing, licensed and background-checked technicians, and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and insurance, and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
We are a plumbing-only shop, which means the tech at your door has spent years on this exact work rather than splitting time across three trades. Our crews are drug tested as well as background checked, and dispatch is staffed by real people around the clock. No surprises, no commission-driven upsells, no pressure, ever.
Pro tip
Insist on a water test before anyone quotes you a filtration system, and ask to see the numbers. Filtration stages should be chosen from what is measurably in your water, not from a standard package. If a company recommends a system without testing, they are selling inventory rather than solving your problem, and you may well be paying for stages you do not need.

How is this different from a filter on my kitchen tap?
Scope and purpose. A point-of-use filter improves the water at one tap, which is fine if drinking water is your only concern. A whole-home system treats water as it enters the house, so showers, laundry, dishwasher, and water heater all get filtered water too. That protects appliances and plumbing as much as it improves what comes out of the tap, which a kitchen filter cannot do.
Will it fix my hard water?
Only if it includes a softener or a conditioning stage, because filtration and softening are different processes. Carbon and sediment stages remove chlorine, taste, odour, and particulate but leave dissolved calcium and magnesium untouched, so scale continues. If the test shows meaningful hardness and that is your main complaint, the answer is a softener, either alone or integrated with filtration. We will tell you which your water needs.
Do I still need reverse osmosis as well?
For drinking water, often yes, and the two are complementary rather than competing. A whole-house system handles sediment, chlorine, and hardness across the whole property. RO targets dissolved contaminants at one tap to a standard that would be impractical and wasteful to achieve house-wide. Many homes we work on end up with both. If you only want one, tell us your priority and we will advise honestly.
How much maintenance does it need?
Less than most people fear, but it is not nothing. Sediment and carbon cartridges typically need changing every six to twelve months depending on your water and usage, and media-based systems need backwashing that the control handles automatically, with a media change every several years. Skipping cartridge changes is worse than having no filter, because a saturated cartridge restricts flow and can release what it captured.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We come out, diagnose the actual fault, and give you one flat price covering parts and labor before any work starts. If you decide not to book, you owe nothing and we will not chase you with follow-up calls. We would rather you had an honest number to compare than feel cornered into a decision at the door.
Do you guarantee the work?
Every job is backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. If the same problem returns, call us and we come back out to make it right. We test our work before leaving rather than packing up the moment it looks finished, which is the main reason callbacks are rare. Parts and equipment carry their manufacturer warranty on top of our own guarantee.
