A disposal that hums is jammed. One that clicks and does nothing has tripped or failed. One that leaks is usually cracked at the housing and past saving. We diagnose which of those you have across Pacifica, San Francisco, and Burlingame, and fix or replace it the same day in most cases.

Garbage Disposal Repair and Installation in Pacifica, San Francisco and Burlingame
Three sounds tell you almost everything. A hum with no rotation means the impeller plate is jammed and the motor is straining, which is fixable in minutes and worth catching before the motor windings cook. A single click or silence usually means the internal overload has tripped or the motor has given up. Water under the cabinet means the housing has corroded through, and no amount of tightening the mount will fix a cracked shell.
The other half of the job is the plumbing around the unit. We see disposals blamed for backups that were actually a blocked branch line, and dishwashers that drain badly because the disposal inlet plug was never knocked out during a previous install. Checking those saves you paying for a new disposal that was never the problem.
When replacement is the right call we size it properly. Half horsepower is fine for a light household, but a busy kitchen or a home with a septic-style waste habit does better on three quarter. Book a free estimate any time, no obligation.

How the job goes
We listen to the unit, cut power and check the impeller and the overload, then inspect the housing and the drain line before quoting one flat price.
You approve the price, and our licensed tech does the work from a fully stocked truck, so most jobs finish in a single visit without a parts run.
We run water and the dishwasher cycle through the new connection, check every joint under the cabinet for weep, and clear out the debris before we leave.

Why homeowners choose Works
Every disposal repair and install comes with upfront pricing, licensed and background-checked technicians, and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and insurance, and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
We are a plumbing-only shop, which means the tech at your door has spent years on this exact work rather than splitting time across three trades. Our crews are drug tested as well as background checked, and dispatch is staffed by real people around the clock. No surprises, no commission-driven upsells, no pressure, ever.
Pro tip
Run cold water, not hot, while the disposal is going, and keep it running a few seconds after you switch off. Hot water melts fat so it travels down the line and hardens further along, where it is a much bigger job to clear. Cold water keeps grease solid enough to get chopped and flushed through. Coffee grounds, eggshells, and fibrous peel belong in the bin.

Almost always, yes. A hum means power is reaching the motor but the impeller plate cannot turn, usually because a bone fragment, a fruit pit, or a piece of cutlery has wedged between the plate and the grind ring. Freeing it takes minutes. What matters is not running it repeatedly while it hums, because that is what burns out the motor and turns a small repair into a replacement.
How long should a garbage disposal last?
Ten to twelve years is typical, and the failure mode tells you a lot. Motors that die of old age usually go quietly, and those units are worth replacing rather than repairing. A unit under about five years old that has stopped working is more often a jam or a tripped overload, which is a repair. If yours is leaking from the body rather than a connection, its age barely matters, a cracked housing means replacement.
What size disposal do I need?
Half horsepower handles a light to average household fine. Three quarter horsepower is the better choice for a busy kitchen, a larger family, or anyone who cooks a lot, because it clears fibrous waste without stalling and runs less strained overall. One horsepower is rarely necessary in a home. We will size it to how you actually use the kitchen rather than selling you the biggest unit on the truck.
Why is my dishwasher draining badly since the disposal was replaced?
Most likely because the inlet plug in the new disposal was never removed. New units ship with that port sealed, and it has to be knocked out before the dishwasher drain hose is connected. If it is still in place the dishwasher cannot drain through the disposal. It is a quick fix, and it is one of the more common things we find after a rushed install.
Can you come out today?
Usually yes. We run stocked trucks out of all three of our locations in Pacifica, San Francisco, and Burlingame, so there is generally a van already working near you rather than one dispatched from across the county. We offer same-day service, and dispatch is staffed 24/7 including weekends and holidays. A real person answers the phone, so you will know within minutes whether we can be there today.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Plumbing problems do not wait for payday, so you can spread the cost over 12, 24, or 60 months through our financing partners. Approval takes about 60 seconds, runs on a soft credit check that does not affect your score, and there is no prepayment penalty if you clear it early. Qualifying plans include 0% APR for the first 12 months.
