Reverse Osmosis Systems in Pacifica, San Francisco and Burlingame
An RO system pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane that rejects dissolved solids down to a very small size, which is why it removes things that carbon filters alone do not: nitrates, fluoride, sodium, lead, and a broad range of dissolved contaminants. It sits under the sink, feeds a dedicated faucet, and usually a fridge and ice maker line as well.
Two things are worth understanding before you buy one. First, RO is point-of-use rather than whole-house, because producing that quality of water for showers and laundry would be wasteful and unnecessary. Second, it produces some waste water in the process, typically a few gallons rejected per gallon produced depending on the system, which is a real if modest tradeoff.
The other honest point is that RO strips minerals along with contaminants, so some people prefer a remineralisation stage for taste. We will talk through whether RO is what you actually need or whether a simpler carbon system would give you the result you are after for less. Book a free estimate any time, no obligation.

How the job goes
We test your water, confirm RO is the right treatment for what is actually in it, and check there is space and drainage under the sink, then quote one flat price.
You approve the price, and our licensed tech does the work from a fully stocked truck, so most jobs finish in a single visit without a parts run.
We install and sanitise the system, flush the membrane, test output quality at the faucet, and leave you with the filter schedule and the right cartridge numbers.
Great professional and quick service! Shamir was friendly, efficient, and professional. He fixed the leaking problem in my sink and garbage disposal in under an hour. Highly recommend!

Why homeowners choose Works
Every RO installation comes with upfront pricing, licensed and background-checked technicians, and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and insurance, and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
We are a plumbing-only shop, which means the tech at your door has spent years on this exact work rather than splitting time across three trades. Our crews are drug tested as well as background checked, and dispatch is staffed by real people around the clock. No surprises, no commission-driven upsells, no pressure, ever.
Pro tip
Write your filter change dates on the housings with a marker when they are installed. Pre-filters typically need replacing every six to twelve months and the membrane every two to three years, and a neglected pre-filter destroys the membrane, which is the expensive part. Thirty seconds with a marker protects the most costly component in the system.

A very broad range of dissolved contaminants, which is what separates it from carbon filtration. The membrane rejects dissolved solids including lead, nitrates, fluoride, sodium, sulphates, and many dissolved metals, alongside the chlorine taste and sediment that a carbon stage handles. If your concern is taste and chlorine alone, a simpler carbon filter may be all you need, and we will say so rather than selling you more system than the water requires.
How often do the filters need changing?
Pre-filters every six to twelve months depending on sediment and chlorine levels, and the RO membrane every two to three years. The order matters: the pre-filters exist to protect the membrane, so skipping them shortens the life of the most expensive component significantly. We set you up with the schedule and the correct cartridge numbers at install, and we can service it on a recurring visit if you would rather not track it.
Does RO waste a lot of water?
It produces some waste, and it is fair to know that before buying. Older systems rejected around four gallons per gallon produced. Modern systems are considerably better, and permeate pump models better still. In household terms the volume is modest against showers and laundry, but if water use is a primary concern, that is worth weighing, and we can point you at the more efficient configurations.
Do I need RO if I already have a whole-house filter?
Often the two do different jobs and complement each other rather than overlap. A whole-house system protects your plumbing and appliances and improves water at every tap, typically handling sediment, chlorine, and hardness. RO targets dissolved contaminants at the one tap you drink from, to a standard no whole-house system economically achieves. If you have one and are considering the other, we will test the water and tell you whether it adds anything real.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We come out, diagnose the actual fault, and give you one flat price covering parts and labor before any work starts. If you decide not to book, you owe nothing and we will not chase you with follow-up calls. We would rather you had an honest number to compare than feel cornered into a decision at the door.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Works Plumbing holds California contractor license #982663, carries full bonding and liability insurance, and is accredited with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Every technician who comes to your door is background checked and drug tested, and arrives in a marked Works van in uniform. If you want to verify the license before booking, you can look it up on the California Contractors State License Board website.
